Coding aids, Auto-complete development type masks
Applies to: Spatial Woodstock 2006.8
Date: March 15, 2007
The Remsoft Spatial Planning System includes a coding aid that you can use to lookup declared codes and keywords on-demand in Woodstock models (see Tech tip: Employing a naming convention in Woodstock models, February 15, 2005). You can also use this coding aid to auto-complete development type masks.
Development types are the glue that bind Woodstock models, and as such development type masks (hereafter referred to as masks) are prevalent in models.
Masks are used to link yield data to forest inventory, to refine output calculations and to declare ageclass distributions to name a few. Many masks are composed entirely of global landscape attributes, the famous question mark character (?).
When declaring masks—non-global masks that is—it is essential to maintain the correct order of the attribute codes. It is easy to forget the correct order, especially if your model contains numerous landscape themes.
You can use the code hints tool to auto-complete development type masks. Not only will this tool generate global masks with the correct number of question marks, it will re-arrange non-global masks to reflect the correct order of attributes.
To use the mask complete tool, type a question mark character, or one or more landscape attribute codes and press Ctrl-spacebar. The software will complete and correct the mask for you automatically. You can use it anywhere that you declare a mask.
