Training

Remsoft Training sessions are always a big hit and often sell-out. Training is delivered over four days in two streams, Basic and Advanced. They are taught through demonstration and hands-on modeling exercises. Space is limited so please reserve your seat early.

BASIC TRAINING (Four Days)

Cost: R$ 8.600 / person, includes coffee-breaks and lunch May 18 – 21

+ Woodstock Modeling Fundamentals

Monday May 18, 9 AM – 5 PM
Tuesday May 19, 9 AM – 5 PM
Wednesday May 20, 9 AM – 12 PM

Modeling Fundamentals is the basic introduction to forest modeling using Woodstock. Other than a basic understanding of forestry concepts (silvics, harvesting systems, reforestation methods, etc.) there are no requirements for this class. That said, Fundamentals is an intense 2.5-day course that covers a lot of material.

As an overview, this training presents the following schedule:

Day 1: Basic introduction to the Remsoft software suite, terminology, demo. Commence model building. Forest characterization. Initial area description. Simple harvest action, transitions and associated outputs.

Day 2: Stepwise refinement of the model (new actions, outputs) including reforestation, linked decisions (regimes and prescriptions). Basic inventory and action-based outputs. Objective functions and constraints. Complete the formulation of the word problem. Outputs practice: inventory, operable inventory and action-based outputs. Limiting output calculations to discrete development type classes using age and yield values.

Day 3: Constraints formulations and scenario management. Dealing with infeasibility.

Prerequisites: Basic understanding of forestry and forest-level planning objectives.

+ Incorporating Automation into Model Building and Updating

Wednesday May 20, 1 PM – 5 PM
Thursday May 21, 9 AM – 12 PM

This training covers the configuration and main applications of Remsoft Integrator. Remsoft Integrator is a scripting language add-on to the Woodstock Optimization Studio that can facilitate model development and maintenance through access to standardized data tables which are used to develop some (or all) of a Woodstock model section.

The course begins with a review of Woodstock FOREACH loops and the selection of naming conventions to make the development of standardized models easier. Next, you will use Integrator code to access Woodstock data source files to build up the Landscape and Areas sections in an automated fashion. You will then learn how to incorporate Integrator code into a template file to automate the update of model sections, and work through examples of importing data using SQL queries.

Along the way, we will discuss best practices and common data approaches that might help you organize your work.

Prerequisite: Modeling Fundamentals
Note: Material is in English.

+ Remsoft Interactive Products Workshop

Thursday May 21, 1 PM – 3 PM

Join Remsoft team for a unique opportunity to learn, exchange and provide feedback on Remsoft products, currently and future.

Through an interactive drop-in workshop, take this opportunity also to influence how we deliver products. We will collect your thoughts on how we could help to simplify your workflow, iterating through scenarios with more agility, and enabling decision making processes with more confidence.

Come and share your user experience with Remsoft’s Director of Analytics Solution, Marie Eve Fillion, and be also part of the conversation that will guide the future of Remsoft products cloud offering and further strength our understanding of the planning challenges that are relevant to South America.

Prerequisite: For Remsoft client base (direct users, IT people, engineers, coordinators, managers) participating in the training workshops.

This workshop will be provided in Portuguese and English.

+ Wood Supply Chain Optimization Session

Thursday May 21, 3:30 PM – 5 PM

This session focuses on how to optimize wood supply chain as a short-term model in Remsoft Scheduler. Beyond the components, interface and basic features of Remsoft Scheduler, this presentation will provide insights on how to address the following challenges:

  • Assign harvest crews or harvest systems to units to minimize movement costs
  • Create a harvest scheduling plan, considering the productivity of your crew and operational constraints;
  • Choose the best wood transport route amongst a choice of intermediate or direct routes
  • Allocate the right product to the right customer
  • Identify and manage product stocks in different stages of the wood supply process like the forest, roadside, intermediate stockyards, mill yard
  • Represent and control important requirements like seasonality, wood quality mix, number of machines/trucks required
  • Incorporate financial tracking in each step of the process and to report on it as per-unit cost reporting.

Prerequisite: To join this session, just be a participant of our Training Workshops or the User Group.

This workshop will be provided in Portuguese and English.

ADVANCED TRAINING (Four Days)

Cost: R$ 9.600 / person, includes coffee-breaks and lunch May 18 – 21

+ Woodstock Applied Modeling Training

Tuesday May 19, 9 AM – 5 PM
Wednesday May 20, 9 AM – 12 PM

Learn about novel modeling techniques and approaches that Remsoft employs when building, running, and updating models. In this workshop, Remsoft Senior Analysts will take you through approaches and techniques that they use in their work.

As a participant, you will discuss when these techniques are applicable and gain hands on experience in their deployment. The session will further include working examples of latest software features and syntax such as, creating new types, model templates, use and application of Analysis Area controls, new approaches for troubleshooting infeasibilities, enhanced reporting, etc.

In addition, we will discuss ways to make your models more efficient – including examining circumstances in which different modules might apply. This session will briefly cover all Remsoft software modules including Woodstock, Allocation Optimizer, Integrator, and Spatial Optimizer.

Prerequisites: Complete fluency in Woodstock modeling, data preparation and QA (generally 1+ years of Woodstock experience following Modeling Fundamentals).
Note: Material is in English.

+ MIP Training

Wednesday May 20, 1 PM – 5PM

This training is an introduction to formulating and solving Mixed Integer Programming problems using Remsoft Modeling Platform. It is designed for modelers who need to gain a good understanding of the different ways to implement integer or binary decision variables in a Woodstock model.

In this session you will learn about the integer structures available in the software and work through several MIP problems.

Prerequisites: Modeling Fundamentals + 6 months modeling experience.
Note: Material is in English.

+ Road Optimizer Session

Thursday May 21, 10 AM – 12 PM

Brings in knowledge and insights to help overcoming the following business challenges in your work and company:

  • In the next 1-5 years, you must efficiently coordinate road building activities with harvest operations sequencing
  • You need to understand the planned volume to be transported on a given road so that road capacity and upgrade activities can be properly budgeted and executed in a timely fashion
  • You must provide road building and maintenance activities visibility to stakeholders
  • You need a better way to forecast detailed road costs
  • Your road infrastructure activities are constrained by budget and crew capacity and you must prioritize for maximum return on investment
  • You are looking for a better way to select harvest areas in the long-term planning process, so that short-term harvest activities are more clustered
  • You must analyze the cost/benefit of accessing a new land base given the road infrastructure investment needed
  • Remsoft senior analysts will lead a hands-on session to demonstrate all the concepts behind Road Optimizer and walk the users through the main features
  • It will discuss the incorporation of roads into the wood supply planning process, and how to create a joint plan.

During this workshop, the users will be able to explore Road Optimizer capabilities through individual exercises.

Prerequisites: Modeling Fundamentals + 6 months modeling experience.
Note: Material is in English.
