With Remsoft Operations, FPC staff involved in planning and management of operational harvesting and wood flow will have easy access to planning tools and data through one cloud-based platform - reducing time and effort, supporting better-informed decisions and boosting confidence in the planning process.

The Forest Products Commission of Western Australia (FPC) is implementing Remsoft Operations with connected Optimization Modeling capabilities to streamline annual planning and forest estate management. By increasing planning effectiveness and transparency, the technology will free up time for planners and foresters and enhance decision making.

The FPC is responsible for the sustainable management and development of Western Australia’s forest products industry, using plantation, sandalwood and native forest products on land owned or leased by the State.

Like many forestry organisations the FPC is data rich with information stored in multiple systems, making data access and analysis complex and time consuming. The implementation will support their transition to more connected, intelligence-based planning that makes better use of existing data and resources.

“The Remsoft team understood our requirements and challenges, and we’re confident the software will help us streamline existing processes to make planning more effective and transparent,” said John Tredinnick, FPC Director New Business and Innovation.

The implementation of Remsoft Operations is an important step forward for the FPC, where we embrace new opportunities for data driven decision making and explore the potential of digital forestry as part of how we do business.”

With Remsoft Operations, FPC staff involved in planning and management of operational harvesting and wood flow will have easy access to planning tools and data through one cloud-based platform. This will reduce the time and effort currently spent referencing multiple systems and support better-informed decisions, boosting confidence in the planning process.

The FPC will use Remsoft’s Annual Planning Optimization application, leveraging Woodstock optimization modeling technology, to analyze and evaluate harvesting decisions. Multiple variables need to be considered when planning the right time of year to harvest individual parts of the estate, such as ensuring that areas which have good access in winter are held back for winter operations, and areas which are prone to fire risk are not planned for harvesting during the bush fire season. Remsoft Optimization will enable planners to model and balance these diverse factors to produce optimal harvest schedules.

Taking advantage of new technology and innovative approaches to make complex forestry planning cycles more efficient, FPC team members will have better tools to fully understand the impact of decisions and make the right ones for sustainable management and future development.
